Welcome to Shakespeare & Beyond! Produced by the Folger Shakespeare Library, our blog is a current, sometimes playful, and always lively resource on a wide range of Shakespeare topics. Shakespeare & Beyond is created for the great variety of Shakespeare enthusiasts—young and old, from across the US and around the world. It offers a fresh, ever-changing look at the 21st-century world of William Shakespeare and his powerful works and characters.
Shakespeare & Beyond explores the topics that shape our experience of Shakespeare today: trends in performance, the latest discoveries and scholarship, news stories, hot discussion topics, pop culture, interesting books, new movies, the rich context of theater and literary history, and more. As the word “beyond” suggests, from time to time Shakespeare & Beyond also covers topics that are not directly linked to Shakespeare, including the subjects of Folger exhibitions on different aspects of his world.
Shakespeare & Beyond brings together original writing, updates, and insights by a variety of contributors, complemented by great audio, video, and photos—including image galleries drawn from the world’s largest Shakespeare collection. Along the way, we highlight new episodes of the Folger’s compelling and often surprising Shakespeare Unlimited podcast series and intriguing articles from the current issue of Folger Magazine.
It’s no coincidence that Shakespeare & Beyond launched in the fall of 2015, on the verge of an exciting year that will be marked around the globe: 2016, the 400th anniversary year of Shakespeare’s death. To see more about the Folger’s many 2016 initiatives and resources, we encourage you to explore The Wonder of Will. And for a round-up of Shakespeare news before, during, and after the anniversary, be sure to keep up with us at Shakespeare & Beyond.
